Jane Whelton: Childcare/Nursery Supervisor
(813) 713-6316 or janewhelton@aol.com

We believe that children are a special gift from God. Therefore, it is our goal to provide your child with the best love and care possible while you are visiting with us here at Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church. Nursery care is available for all worship services. This includes Wednesday evenings, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter Worship, Christmas Eve (excluding the 11:00am service) and all three Sunday morning services.

Our Nursery is a Volunteer Co-op
If your child attends regularly, you are expected to serve in our nursery at least one hour a month, unless you are actively serving in other aspects of ministry. Dads and moms are encouraged to team up for nursery duty.

Adult-to-Child Ratio
In order to provide the best care possible for your child, we like to maintain a ratio of one adult to every three infants, four crawlers, or five toddlers.

Accepting Children into the Nursery
For the safety of the children, no one is expected to enter the toddler nursery except workers and babies. Please sign your child in at the door and hand your child over to the volunteers.

ID Badges and Beepers
The nursery has implemented a system to prevent anyone from picking up a child other than the parent. As you sign in, please take a numbered ID badge. Pin one to your child and keep the other; you will need to present it to the nursery volunteer when picking up your child. At drop off you will also be issued a beeper with a corresponding number. In the event we need to reach you, you will be beeped.

Policies
Allergy Policy
Please notify the staff of any allergies. A yellow bracelet will be placed on the child’s arm to alert all adults an allergy is present.

Well-Baby Policy
To protect the health of ALL babies and volunteers, we cannot permit a baby who is ill. Please do not bring your child if the following symptoms have occurred within the past 24 hours:
  • Discolored mucus
  • Fever
  • Vomited
  • Diarrhea
  • Contagious skin rash
  • Discharge from the eye
  • Pink eye

If a child displays any of these symptoms while in the nursery, you will be contacted and asked to take your child home. Absolutely NO medication will be administered in the nursery.

Crying Policy
All children cry sometimes when being left by parents… it is only normal. In most cases, the crying will stop within a few minutes. However, if your child continues to cry for more than 10-15 minute, we will send for you. It is best not to come to the nursery to see your child unless you are ready to pick them up. We will notify you immediately should an emergency occur.
