Lake Magdalene United Methodist Women
We would like to extend a warm welcome to all women of Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church. No matter your age, your presence is always joyfully welcome! Being part of United Methodist Women at Lake Magdalene, we learn about and support our church's national and global missions and social initiatives. On a local level, we provide for many non-profit agencies through service and monetary donations.
We are organized in sub-groups, called circles. There are 4 circles and each meets at different times of the month and focuses on programs and missions that are of unique interest to its members. Everyone is encouraged to participate in our circles. There is no better place for fellowship, support and service!
- Lamplighters Circle meets the first Thursday of each month at 7pm. Contact: Nancy Dawson @ 962-0038
- Mary Martha Circle meets the second Tuesday of each month at 9:30am. Contact: Mary Ann Cooper @ 961-1853
- Naomi Circle meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7pm. Contact: Marge Fairley @ 962-2573
- There is a NEW Circle forming this year which meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7pm. Conact: Gretchen Hebert at gretchendh@gmail.com & 979-0105 or Corey McKeown at mckeown@live.com & 936-0613
However, membership in UMW does not require Circle involvement. Membership can be expressed in several ways such as: intercessory prayer, undesignated giving to support mission, participation in the UMW reading program, and participation in our various local outreach efforts. Our circles volunteer their time at such places as: Church Women United, Delta Nursing Home, Children's Service Shelter, Meals on Wheels and MORE! –We also have been preparing meals for the bereaved families of our church for many years. And we supply fresh bread for new church members. There are so many opportunities for service!
We get together as a church unit several times during the year for various educational, social and mission programs. We hold two fundraisers each year: The UMW Annual Flea Market and the Annual Craft Fair. These two events are our only major fundraisers – collected funds go towards missions! We also host the Annual Mother's Day Banquet each year. This event is open and enjoyed by all women in our congregation. We do not make any money from this event. It is simply a wonderful tradition and time of fellowship.
Paul's words to Timothy have a fresh and contemporary meaning: "…I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying of my hands." (II Timothy 1:6). As United Methodist Women, we want to use the gifts God has given us and share our gift of God with others through fellowship and mission work. The emblem of the United Methodist Women, the cross and the flame, symbolizes our organization's duty to pass this flame to others by opportunities and obligations of discipleship. We need all women's help – whether it is a one-time donation of time or a total involvement. If you would like further information on UMW membership or any of our various service opportunities, please contact Gretchen Hebert (979-0105) and she will be happy to answer your questions or connect you with the appropriate person!
Response Magazine:
Response is the official magazine of the United Methodist Women. Its goals are to educate for mission, to interpret the Purpose of the United Methodist Women and to strengthen the organization. Visit http://gbgm-umc.org/response *Important note about your UMW Money for Mission: Throughout every issue of Response, whenever you see the symbol of two striped, interlocking circles in a rectangle, you are reading about a program and/or person supported by our UMW Mission Giving. Watch for the symbol at the end of articles and withing boxes that explain how your money is making a difference in the lives of women, youth and children.
