Please contact Marta Cortez with any questions about our Nursery

We believe that children are a special gift from God. Therefore, it is our goal to provide your child with the best love and care possible while you are visiting with us here at Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church. All of our volunteers and staff that work with your children are background checked and Child Youth Protection Policy trained. If you have any questions, we encourage you to speak with Marta Cortez, Director of Children's Ministry. You may email her at the address listed above, or call her directly at 813-961-1254.

We provide nursery care for all worship services. This includes Wednesday evenings, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Easter Worship, Christmas Eve (excluding the 11:00 pm service) and all three Sunday morning services.

Please contact Marta Cortez for information on opportunities to volunteer in the Nursery.

Adult-to-Child Ratio

In order to provide the best care possible for your child, we like to maintain a ratio of a minimum of  two adults to every three infants and  a minimum of two adults for every four crawlers, or five toddlers. However, some children need individual care as they learn to be left in the nursery. The nursery supervisor will work with you on a plan to make your child comfortable as he adjusts to this new experience.

Accepting Children into the Nursery

For the safety of the children, no one is expected to enter the toddler nursery except workers and babies. Please sign your child in at the door and the volunteers will take your children inside.

As you sign in, please note any special instructions (feeding, allergies )  along with which service you will be attending. You will be issued a beeper. Please enter the beeper number beside your information on the sign-in sheet. If we need to reach you, you will be beeped. Also, you will need the correct beeper in order to pick up your child.

Well-Baby Policy

To protect the health of ALL babies and volunteers, we cannot allow a baby who is ill to stay. Please do not bring your child if the following symptoms have been observed within the past 24 hours:

  • Discolored mucus
  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Contagious skin rash
  • Discharge from the eye
  • Pink eye

If a child displays any of these symptoms while in the nursery, you will be contacted and asked to take your child home. Absolutely NO medication will be administered in the nursery.

Crying Policy

All children cry sometimes when being left by parents, it is only normal. In most cases, the crying will stop within a few minutes. However, if your child continues to cry for more than 10-15 minutes, we will send for you. It is best not to come to the nursery to see your child unless you are ready to pick them up. We will notify you immediately should an emergency occur.
